2010 Kenya Triennial Travel Information by Sarabeth Marcinko
The USFWI board is recommending that international travelers to the
Triennial Conference in Kenya use the services of Dick Mills of World
Discovery Safaris to book their international flights. Dick's parents
were Friends missionaries in Kaimosi when he was growing up, and he has
worked in the travel business for many years. Of course, you also have
the option of booking your international flights online or with another
travel agency such Dick will also book flights within Kenya, if you wish. But transportation is usually cheaper when booked in-country. Eden Grace of FUM is willing to book any in-country transportation and overnight stays needed. If you are participating in any of the FUM tours, she will already be making the needed arrangements. Please check the FUM website for registration and information about the FUM Extend Your Stay travel options. When you have booked your international travel, contact FUM thru Terri Johns and Eden Grace to let them know your plans and what arrangements you need for them to make. The payments for these services will be made through FUM. Dick has suggested some other options besides the FUM activities, if you are interested. You might go on a safari or visit attractions near Nairobi. Some ideas are listed below, but Dick would be happy to work with groups and individuals to provide other air and land arrangement options. He has said, “Please let your conference participants know they can call me with any questions or if they would like me to arrange something different for them. We could, for instance, design a pre or post conference safari for them into Tanzania, Uganda or Rwanda.” He also recommends making your travel arrangements as soon as possible. Airfares are trending upwards and airlines are offering fewer flights, which mean fuller planes and more difficulties in booking tickets with efficient travel schedules. You should give Dick information about the passport names of the people who are traveling together, arrival and departure dates and airports so he can find ticket information for you.

Some of the options and costs for activities USFWI and FUM folks may want to engage in while in Nairobi are: Admission costs for: Giraffe Centre Kshs 700 per person (approx $10), Blixen Museum Kshs 700 per person (approx $10), Sheldrick Animal Orphanage Kshs 300 per person (approx $4-5) Lunch at Blixen Cottages $25 per person, Driver guide and vehicle for visit to the Karen area. US$ 135 per vehicle (can take up to 6 passengers). I believe the cost of the driver and vehicle hire would include pick up from and return to any of Nairobi's downtown hotels.
