 Esther Pritchard Tuttle published the first "Missionary Advocate" in 1885. It continues to this day as "The Advocate." Published 6 times a year, it is an avenue of communication for the USFWI. Included in its pages is the list of USFWI projects for the year and articles of information from the various fields where those projects are located. Included also are the names, addresses and birthdays of the workers on the field; and names and addresses of the USFWI Executive Committee; the list of reading course books, inspirational articles and more. The secretaries of departments regularly submit articles in the area of their concern. Eliza Cox said in 1908, "See all the people who never have taken [our periodical yet], and invite their cooperation. The paper not only needs the people, but Friends everywhere need the "Missionary Advocate."
