2011-2012 CHILDREN AND YOUTH READING LIST

        Children and Youth should read at least 4 books from this list that parents and readers agree are appropriate for the reader’s age or ability.  Age and grade guidelines are listed for reference, but reading abilities and interests can vary greatly.  Children and Youth should also contribute to the USFWI Children & Youth Projects.

Youth—Teens

Teens may choose 4 books from the Junior or Adult lists that interest them.

One selection may be reading the equivalent of an issue of THE ADVOCATE.

 

Junior—Grades 5-8

 

            It’s Not About Me: Live Like You Mean It – Max Lucado               $13

This is a teen edition of Lucado’s popular book with journal questions in the appendix.

A Girl After God’s Own Heart – Elizabeth George                $10

A girl’s devotional to encourage a Tween’s adventure with Jesus.

Toward the Goal: The Kaka Story Jeremy V. Jones             $7

The true-life story of how a boy from Brazil became the FIFA World Player of the Year & shared his faith along the way.

                Jackson Jones: The Tale of a Boy, an Elf, and a Very Stinky Fish Jenn Kelly    $13

Sometimes you have to get lost to figure out where you’re going- a Christian fantasy.

                Extra Credit Andrew Clements                         $17

An Illinois girl and an Afghanistan boy learn from each other during a year of being pen pals.

              Lucy Finds Her Way – Nancy Rue                             $8

This realistic fiction from faiThGirLz! deals with real-life problems among peers and family.

                Big Thoughts for Little People: ABC’s to Help You Grow – Kenneth N. Taylor     $15

Taylor's classic uses the alphabet to teach 3- to 7-year-olds about Christian values.

Kids will discover some of the most amazing endangered animals.
