TO DO List for Travel to Kenya from the US January 2010
(1) You will need a passport, of course, but be sure it does not expire within 6 months of your travel time.
(2) Visas can be purchased when you enter the country. (They cost $25 and you must have cash) (3) Immunizations: Here is what is recommended: Check with your doctor or a travel doctor for specific recommendations. -Yellow fever - (at least 10 days before departure, good for ten years and may be required to reenter USA) -Hepatitis A - This is a two dose immunization -Hepatitis B - This is a 3 dose immunization and the third dose comes 6 months after the first two. There is no way you can get the third dose now but you will be partially covered at least with the first two. -Polio- booster is recommended. -Typhoid- -You need to start the anti-malaria medication before you leave the States. There are choices on this one. Malarone is the one Earlham College recommends which you start 3 days before departure and continue 7 days after. But there are others as well. -Tetanus-Diphtheria- should also be up to date. -Meningitis vaccination- (Optional but might be warranted for travel to Turkana or Samburu)
